“As of now, the situation is very tough: margins have been squeezed at the moment and the government regulation for FF/ESI has added to the cost. Raw material cost is also on the higher side, increasing by almost 20% to 25% due to cotton holding without excess demand. It is a well-known fact that the garment sector is the highest employed after agriculture but still we do not obtain the merited priority and it is difficult to understand how the trade and the people involved in it will sustain. The US dollar is also affecting the business. The package of Rs 6,000CR announced by the government is not going to help now as not one wants to expand the business due to these factors.” 

“The economic slowdown in Japan has affected exports to that country and does the business has gone down by almost 30%. The duty-free agreement between the two countries too has not had the impact that was expected due to slow down in the Japanese economy and also because of the completion from China which has reduced its prices to gain an edge in the market.”
